From Dream to RealityThe Cox Marine Journey

Our vision

Our goal is to be recognised as the brand that powers the future of the global marine industry, through sustainable innovation. Building further on our reputation, forming strong relationships, and earning the respect and trust of our partners, we hope that delivering on our promises with passion will help enable our people and the business to progress and grow further.

Our story so far

“There has to be a better way” – the thought that inspired the creation of Cox Marine and started our pioneering journey to develop a lightweight outboard powered by alternative fuel options to gasoline that wouldn’t force anyone to compromise on something that mattered.

With the launch of our first product, the Cox Marine 300 – a 4.4 litre, twin-turbo, three-hundred horsepower V8 – that vision was brought to reality.

The launch of the Cox Marine 300 represented the start of a new generation of outboard technology, offering the only alternative propulsion solution that is purpose-built for the marine industry and helps meet the increasing demand for a propulsion option that provides its owner with equal levels of performance, convenience, time, and economy.

Deciding to design our outboard from a blank sheet of paper allowed us to push ourselves further ahead of the rest. Creating a platform that allows for further growth, development, and, more importantly… power!

With that, the newest member of our product line-up, the Cox Marine 350, the latest in The V8 family – an outboard that sets new standards in fuel economy, power delivery and safety.

With the ability to run on diesel and HVO100, this outboard is already significantly reducing marine emissions and the total cost of ownership, to our customers, through the application of innovative technologies in high-performance propulsion systems.

Delivering the same performance and packaging of a gasoline outboard but with the fuel efficiency of alternative fuels, this marine-specific propulsion option has begun to revolutionise the market.

1990s

How it all began

Charles Good begins his search for a lightweight diesel engine capable of satisfying the global demand for an alternative to gasoline outboards and diesel inboards.

2009

Vision turned into reality

Having met David in 2008, Charles became Chairman, and with his investor group, becomes the financier of Cox Powertrain and spearheads the development of David’s lightweight diesel into the powerhead for an outboard engine.

2014

Significant Growth

David and Charles appoints a Senior Leadership Team, driving the business on and taking on new premises.

2016

Distribution Network

Work to secure a global distributor network and global supply chain begins to support the launch of the the Cox Marine outboard.

2019

Production line is built

World-class production facility at Brighton City Airport is built in anticipation for launch.

2020

Certification Secured

Following EPA Tier 3, RCD II and IMO Tier II certification, in July 2020, and a small amount of outboard production commenced over the following 12 months.

2021

Production Begins

Cox Marine then took time to learn from all the feedback the first batch of outboards provided us to improve the product further. Series production started in 2022, with the resulting supply of outboards to the global distributor base.

2024

Here’s to the Pioneers

Cox Marine launches a 350-horsepower variant of its flagship outboard, further developing the current architecture – the 4.4 litre V8.
